Mary, Mother of God

Today the Church celebrates the solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God. I love this day!! Every year it comes, I feel that the whole day is hers, that it is filled with her beauty and glory. She is our Mother clothed in the sun, crowned with stars... most importantly, she was chosen by God Himself to be His Mother. That still is a great mystery and awesome aspect of our faith. We could take the day and think of that alone. It is so beautiful and fitting that it falls on the first day of the year. May our year be turned towards her radiance, her guidance, her tenderness!

Fill the house with candles and flowers to honor her... perhaps have the children make her a crown of flowers, placing it on the head of her statue or at the foot of an image you have of her.

(I have put up here the image of Mary, Mother of God, Ever-Blooming Rose, by Daniel Nichols of Eighth Day Icons.) Click here to see an incredibly beautiful icon of Mary the Mother of God I found online!)

Happy Feast day!
